The Hidey-Hole started as a simple idea: what if there was a place at festivals where money didn't matter? Where you could sit down, catch your breath, play some classic video games, light up, and remember that we're all in this together?
We're a collective of friends who got tired of the commercialization creeping into festival culture. Every year, it seemed like there were more vendors trying to separate you from your hard-earned cash and fewer spaces just dedicated to human connection, nostalgia, and simple fun.
So we decided to be the change we wanted to see. We load up our vehicles with multiple TVs, every classic gaming console we can fit, boxes of controllers, and our ever-growing collection of rocks we've found across America. We set up our tent with comfortable seating areas around gaming stations, tables displaying our polished stones, and of course, always have good herb to share. Then we give it all away, no strings attached.
Our gaming setup is serious business - we've got original Atari 2600s running Combat and Pitfall, NES systems loaded with Super Mario Bros and Zelda, SNES consoles with Mario Kart and Donkey Kong Country, Sega Genesis with Sonic, N64s running GoldenEye and Super Smash Bros, plus original Gameboys for portable nostalgia. We've collected cartridges and games for years, and nothing makes us happier than watching someone's face light up when they rediscover a childhood favorite.
The rocks come from everywhere we've been - desert quartz from Arizona road trips, Lake Superior agates from Minnesota shores, Appalachian gems from mountain hikes, Pacific Coast jasper from Oregon beaches. We clean them, polish them with love, and each one carries the energy of its journey. We love sharing the stories of where we found each stone, and there's something magical about watching someone find the perfect rock that calls to them.
